Rich colour, smooth mixing

Use the colours straight from the tube or mix your own shades on the palette. The creamy oil-paint texture supports expressive brush marks and palette-knife passages, from small studies to longer studio projects. A suitable oil painting medium can be used to adjust flow and handling; follow the medium’s instructions.

Time to blend and develop your painting

The slow-drying character of oil colour gives you time to blend shades and soften transitions. Explore wet-on-wet passages or build colour in layers, allowing appropriate drying time between stages. Drying varies with the pigment, paint thickness, medium, surface and studio conditions; there is no single drying time for every colour or technique.

Prepared surfaces and studio use

Use on surfaces prepared for oil painting, such as primed canvas, canvas boards, oil painting paper or properly primed wood panels. These are conventional oil colours, not water-mixable paints. Use compatible oil painting materials rather than adding water.
